Ruta del Este
Ruta del Este is the first Panamanian road contracted under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) contract.
The project a 246 km two lane road connects Panama City with Yaviza in the Province of Darién.
Ruta del Este considers rehabilitation, improvement and maintenance according to the performance indicators and is divided into three sections.
Project stages
At this stage, preparatory processes and procedures are carried out for the execution of the project.
The designs will be completed, the environmental license will be obtained, as well as the social agreements and the utility relocation. During this stage operation and maintenance activities will be carried out.
Construction work includes the rehabilitation and fine-tuning the infrastructure. In this stage, the same operation and maintenance activities of the preconstruction phase will be carried out.
This stage begins once construction is completed; The road will continue to be operated and maintained and performance indicators will be measured for a period of 15 years.
During this stage the road will be returned to the Ministry of Public Works and the contract will come to an end.

Some of the surrounding communities located nearby Ruta del Este are: Las Garzas, Tanara, Unión de Azuero, Chepo, Cañitas, El Llano, Kuna de Madugandi, Ipetí, Tortí, Cañazas, Agua Fría, Santa Fe, Metetí, Samson, Canglon and Yaviza.
Concession services will be free of charge
The project does not include the collection of tolls to circulate. The Ministry of Public works will provide, on a semesterly basis, payment to the concessionary to build operate and maintain the road as described under Law 93 from 2019.
Furthermore, in the event of an emergency, we will provide support to traffic authorities such as the Police, Firefighters, Red Cross and any other relevant authority depending on the type of emergency .
During the operation and maintenance stage, additional activities aligned with compliance with the contract indicators applicable to this stage will be included.
Weigh stations
Ruta del Este will have two weight and dimension stations. One includes the rehabilitation of the existing station in the town of Chepo and the other will be defined during the design phase. Both stations will be operated by the Autoridad de Transito y Transporte (ATTT).
